Tri-City Chinese Baptist Church

11/13/2020 Communication

November 13, 2020

Dear TCCBC church family,

Greetings in the Lord to you and your family!  We thank God for the church’s 43rd anniversary in-person worship in the church last Sunday.  We believe God will continue to lead us by His grace with His hand on our path forward.  We also ask God to enable our church to continue being His light to the community, and for His people to attain maturity spiritually.

I trust that those who are members of the church will have received the voting ballots from the church before Nov 20.  There are three resolutions on this ballot.  The first one is to consider approving calling Pastor Michael Kwong to be our Cantonese Pastor.  The second is the ratification and approval of the church’s 2020-2021 fiscal year budget.  The third is to approve the election of Jachin Hsu to be our church Trustee as recommended by the council.  Please promptly return your completed voting ballot to the church after you have received it.  I want to remind you to specifically pray and ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance before casting your votes on these matters.  If you have not received your voting ballot before next Friday, please let Roddy Kwan know right away.  Thank you for your attention on this.

The worship service times remain the same at this Sunday’s reopening of the church for in-person worship.  We welcome everyone to return to church to worship God in person together.  I understand that some of you may still have concerns about the pandemic and do not wish to join the in-person worship at this time.  Looking from a different perspective, the Church Reopening Committee has meticulously planned and prepared for safely reopening the church for ministry gatherings.  Basically, even though we cannot guarantee 100% absolute safety, we do not expect there be problems.  After all, I am sure we have been going out to opened public places even in the middle of the pandemic restrictions.  For example, you have gone shopping at grocery stores or visited other places.  Or you have been to a physician’s office for your regular health exam.  You trusted the health safeguards and procedures used at these places to sufficiently protect you.  But let us consider if the safeguards and procedures from our church is less sufficient?  Isn’t the risk even higher with the diversity of people at grocery stores and physician’s office?  I am merely providing you another angle for your consideration.  If you are so led, we welcome you to rejoin the church’s in-person worship soon!  Beyond worshiping in person, we continue to broadcast online worship livestream over YouTube Live as an option for you.  Please use the following links to access the worship livestreams.

If you will be joining us in church for in person worship, please use the online form to register your attendance so that the reopening team can plan for the capacity to accommodate you.  I encourage you to arrive 15 minutes earlier to go over the temperature check and safety protocols.  Remember to wear your face covering also.  And don’t worry, even if you forget to bring yours, the church will provide one for you to use.  I also ask that you pray for those serving in the church.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Wayne Wong for the Mandarin and Cantonese worship, and Linda Chau for the English worship.

I mentioned in the last communication letter of an upcoming meeting with Mr. Stephen Choy, a candidate for the English Pastor position.  We have made a change to the date.  It has been moved to the weekend of Dec 6.  Mr. Stephen Choy will be preaching in the English worship at 9:30 am.  He will preach with translation in a combined Mandarin/Cantonese worship at 11:00 am.  We are also making arrangements to have him meet everyone over online meetings.  You can bring up questions with him in these meetings.  We pray that the Spirit of our Lord leads us to confirm in our hearts if he is the shepherd that God sends to serve among us.  The arrangement details and Zoom meeting links will be provided to you in the near future.

Our church continues to be a sponsor of Operation Christmas Child this year.  The collection is held on Nov 16-23 for the underprivileged children around the world.  Through your love and generosity, not only will they be receiving your Christmas gifts, they will also get to hear the gospel.  You can pack your own shoebox gifts, or you can use the “Build a shoebox online” option with a suggested $25 donation.  A $9 donation per shoebox gift is critical to provide for shipping, processing, and gospel materials for the child.  Please consider giving online.

Our Church is also a Drop Off Location again this year. We are looking for volunteers to help with Curbside Drop-off on November 16-23.  No experience is required; we will train you to greet donors, to pray for the shoeboxes, to pack the shoeboxes into cartons and to deliver the cartons to the central drop off location in Pleasanton (someone with a van or SUV).  You can sign up online to help.
